| Welcome to my wrapup post for this year. Those who don't want to read a long blog, click "Back" and do whatever you were doing before and go out single file to the nearest exits. Alrighty, here we go.
Well, this has been another one of those up-and-down year, yet I can finally dwell on more positives than anything.
In the sports world, the restless Vancouver Canucks made again to the playoffs, only to be doused by the Calgary Flames in 7 games for the first round. After Tampa Bay came on to win the cup, the NHL has been locked out for over a hundred days and counting.. now, we look forward to the World Junior Hockey Championships, watching the (overrated?) Sidney Crosby and his team take on future NHLers around the globe. Add the infamous Bertuzzi act, and you've got boring talk shows. The B.C. Lions also made it to the Grey Cup, only to lose to the hungry Toronto Argonauts, that was a tough pill to swallow as former Lion pivot, Damon Allen defeated the Leos to capture the CFL's great prize. What was it, the Euros 2004? Two underdogs, Greece and Portugal matched up in the finals in the Portuguese's own turf, only to have Greece take home all the gloating and pride. Detroit Pistons win the NBA Championships over the L.A. Lakers in what seemed like a lopsided matchup. Don't forget the sports team in Boston, as the New England Patriots took home their second Super Bowl in three years against the one-hit wonder Carolina Panthers, and the Boston Red Sox finally win a World Series in the time span of 86 years (without capturing one).
In the music world, the world was revived of old rock music put in today's timeframe when band's such as Jet, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, and Velvet Revolver (and more..) exposed themselves to the music industry. The former religious band, Creed, became Alterbridge minus their singer. Sum 41 comes back from a near-death experience and uses that as motivation for their album, Chuck. Jay-Z and Linkin Park makes history with their 6 remixes (all with their old hits) and going live in front of MTV. And U2, what about U2? With their sound changing from each decade, they sound great for even today. The world was in shock as Dimebag Darrell of Damageplan was shot by a troubled football star in a concert. And of course, going to pop music. Who can forget the Ashlee Simpson mishap on SNL? It's gotta suck for many pop lovers to believe their singer has a real voice these days. There's much more than happened in the world of music than this, but I don't really have time to look at what each band did (because they're not important). Don't forget Eminem with his album, Encore, another album full of lyrics certain to cause controversy. With hip-hop artist Kayne West, the ever-rising R&B stars Usher and Alicia Keys, coming to prime, this industry looks stronger than ever. Also would like to add, Jin finally releases his album, The Rest Is History. Good stuff. Oh yeah, people should really listen to Indie music, this stuff simply fukin' ROCKS. For jazz fans, rest in peace, Ray Charles.
Okay, enough of the stuff I've been following closely these past 12 months. It's time to blab about my life (I'm sure that's what y'all here for). Rather than going month by month, I'll just write it as a summary.
Friends come and go. I've made so many new friends over this year, but I've lost a few. It's something I can't control, but I try to be there for most of them at the best of my ability (lol, it's not enough). Especially when you don't know if you're going to see them the next day, so I always try to be positive (even when I'm down), although that hasn't quite worked out. I'm still missing Andrew even to today, but I'll see him in a better place. That Play-On road hockey tournament was for him, it's an added bonus we won, hehe. Wonder if we can join the AHL this year (lol, sounds so lame). Speaking of friends, this summer, I met up with one that I've known since elementary school (and haven't seen since then). It's always nice to keep in touch with old friends, although I haven't lived up to that promise as much as I'd like to. Who knows what happens once we graduate? We'll probably just send each other like seasonal e-cards or a phone call for some special occasion, or if we're real close, then e-mails? Iunno, the future is scary.
So is love. Love shouldn't be a game where, for example, one person goes out or makes out with one person to get back at another one. Being the person in between a couple or the "meddler" is something I don't want to be and I hope will never be. But enough of my superficial theories, I've basically lived on this year off of sports, music and friends. Sports - because if I didn't try extra hard or be able to have the gift to run swiftly, I would be nothing to people. Music - one of the only things everyone in the world should appreciate, no matter what kind. Friends - without them, again, I wouldn't be here writting this.
Wow, I've got off track. Highlights this year include (not in a specific order): Band Trip to Sun Peaks (lol, yeah. I know. BAND trip), end of the year trip to Playland, trip to Eastern Canada, watching the sunset while still on msn (right, Amy?), everytime I had the chance to chill with friends and meeting new ones, Play-On tourney, finishing piano, passing gr. 9, Dau's weird farewell, Dad visiting, cousins coming back here for x'mas and probably the last two days snowboarding (at Grouse and Seymour). So, I say this year was much better than what I said 365 days ago about the previous year.
Of course, what would the world be without the debatable (what Bush can't do) election of Bush being re-elected or Sadam being found in a rat hole? Or even Janet Jackson's Super Bowl Wardrobe Malfunction?
But most of all, to the recent tragedy in Southern Asia. God bless to all the victims and survivors there. Makes me realize even more how lucky we are.
That's it for the year 2oo4 everyone, thanks a bunch for reading the whole thing (if you did) and thanks for even visiting my site. Hope you all had an even year than I did.
